Aesthetic Nurse / business owner/ mom
Happy 22 year RN anniversary to meπΎ22 years ago, I graduated from the University of Michigan with my BSN ππ
I began my nursing career in labor & delivery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. πΆπ»The department had 32 labor/delivery/recovery rooms, and was the size of a huge Chicago city block. πββοΈ At the time it was the 2nd busiest birthing center in the country. There were 100+ RNs on staff just for L&D. I saw it all: HIV injected mothers (not one passed on the virus to her baby, thanks to 1 special doctor who dedicated her career to this), HELLP syndrome, water births, triplets, fetal demise, severely premature babies, a 14 year old having her 2nd baby, fetal anomalies, a baby named Hunter Camper Fisher, and birth plans that would blow your mind. I cried often. We delivered a classroom every day - 30 babies. π£
I then became the supervisor of our 4 L&D ORs. There began my love of surgery.
In 2007, I quit my job and moved to San Diego for better weather.
I started working at @igo_medical, running their OR, helping with gynecological procedures. I scheduled and pre-opβd patients, prepared the OR, administered conscious sedation, recovered the patient, then sterilized all the instrumentation, and ordered supplies. A one nurse show.
I then went on to be a surgical nurse at an orthopaedic surgery center, then Scripps Ximed ambulatory surgery center for 10 years, and Scripps Encinitas main OR for 3 years, helping in every type of surgery.
During my time at Scripps, in 2015, I became interested in the world of aesthetics. I started a side hustle, partnering with doctors whom I knew from the OR, to be my supervising MD. I attained and retained my own patients, injecting at my supervising MDβs office 1-2 times per week, while working part time in surgery. I studied studied studied and practiced practiced practiced, honing in on delivering natural results.
In 2022, with the support of my medical director, I moved into a studio in Encinitas. Six months later I was busy enough to leave the hospital and pursue entrepreneurship full time.
My career has been incredibly rewarding, while affording the perfect work/life balance. π
I now have 300 active patients and run the business in Cardiff, CA as a solo injector (alongside my medical director).
